Progress is not linear
Note to self: If you lifted more every time you went to the gym, eventually, you would lift the gym.
If you weighed less every time you stepped on the scale, eventually, you would disappear.
If you performed better in your sport every day, eventually, there would be nothing to strive for.
When we read these things, we agree. Yet, often, I see people getting disappointed when these statements prove to be true.
I work with people who are disappointed if they don't lose weight every week, if they don't lift more every week, and if they don't perform better every week.
But would we expect these things from someone else?
No.
So, why do we expect them off ourselves?
The reality is that there will be weeks when you don't perform well, when you feel weak, and when you gain weight.
There will be days when you feel like you're actually going in the opposite direction than what you want.
And that is all a part of the journey towards where you want to be.
So next time you don't make 'progress', you can see, remind yourself,'this is as much a part of the journey to success as the wins and the PBs'.
